River Ride 2009

Last week, more than 80 riders came out for the South River Ride and had a blast! If you missed that ride, you have another chance. This Saturday, July 25, we head north to Troy for the North River Ride. See the details below.

Register for the ride.

North Ride, July 25

9 a.m. to noon, Troy

This 14-mile out-and-back ride begins at the gazebo near Hobart Arena and follows the Great Miami River Recreation Trail to Tipp City Nature Center before turning around and heading back to downtown Troy. You'll travel by the Troy Aquatic Park, Miami Shores Golf Course, and the canal locks.

Enjoy some snacks along the way including:

  • Bananas from Chiquita and Dannon drinkable yogurt from Dannon at registration.
  • Fresh fruit from Fulton Farms and bread from BakeHouse Bread.
  • Trail mix or a similar snack and Gatorade at the Tipp Nature  Center compliments of Cub Scout Pack 365 and Culvers, respectively.
  • Culvers frozen custard at the Welcome Station as you come back into Troy.

When you return to Troy, stop at the Welcome Station for frozen custard and pick up a map/schedule of things to do downtown. Then peddle your bike through downtown and visit various merchants, many of which will be offering River Ride Tour specials.

Among the activities following the ride, you can tour the Miami County Courthouse at 10:30 or 11 a.m. The courthouse was completed in 1888. The Fresco plaster ceilings, marble wainscoting, mosaic tile and intricate woodwork make this courthouse an architectural treasure.

You can also tour the Troy Foundation from 10 a.m. to noon. The Troy Foundation bought a historical home at 216 W. Franklin St. in Troy to be renovated and used as the future location of the Foundation's offices. This beautiful house has been restored to its original character and features beautiful woodwork throughout the home.

South Ride, July 18 COMPLETED

Miamisburg-Franklin

Riders made their way about 7 miles to Franklin (and back for a total of 14 miles) and stopped at the Harding Museum and the log cabin post office, toured the Train Depot, and viewed the remarkable murals along Main Street and inside Pisanello's Pizza.

Along the way, they were provided snacks and drinks including:

  • Bottles of water at the museum.
  • Subway samples and Tradewinds tea at the Train Depot.
  • Pisanello's Pizza.

Once back in Miamisburg, they enjoyed music by a DJ, hamburgers from the historic Hamburger Wagon and Wagner's potato chips.
