Dump the Pump
Monday, June 16, 2008, 11:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m.
Courthouse Square (Downtown Dayton)
Say “no” to high gasoline prices and help the environment. You can make a difference by riding RTA. Join us along with our partner organizations from Drive Less Live More on Courthouse Square in downtown Dayton for this fun, free event. Learn more about alternative transportation options and register to win great prizes
Plan to have lunch on Courthouse Square on Monday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. during RTA’s kick-off of the American Public Transportation Association’s national “Dump the Pump” week.
Each year transit agencies throughout the country urge motorists to give up driving and buying gas for one day in lieu of alternate transportation options: riding public transit, walking, biking, or carpooling – Driving Less and Living More! With gas prices hovering in the $4-per-gallon range this year, “dumping the pump” presents an attractive option.
The nationally sponsored “Dump the Pump” Day is Thursday, June 19, but RTA hopes Dayton drivers will show their support for the environment, as well as their own pocketbooks, by “dumping the pump” all week long!
Are you up to a Challenge?
Why not “Dump the Pump” as another way to leave your car keys at home! The RTA invites you to compete in its first annual “Dump the Pump” Challenge. Area companies will vie against each other in a fun contest to raise awareness about how riding public transit can, not only benefit your wallet, but also help the environment.
The “Dump the Pump” Challenge encourages employees who do not regularly ride RTA to log their trips on the bus to work during “Dump the Pump” week from June 16th to June 20th.
The companies with the most logged trips will receive “Dump the Pump” Challenge awards and will be featured in RTA’s OnBoard rider newsletter and on the authority’s website. Special gift bags will be awarded to employees who log the most trips, and all employees who take the challenge will receive RTA “goody” bags.
Enter your company in the Challenge by completing a participation packet available for download at www.greaterdaytonrta.org. After receiving your packet, RTA will mail your Challenge Kit or your company representative may pick one up on June 16 at the “Dump the Pump” kick-off celebration on Courthouse Square.
