Join the 2009 campaign
The third annual Drive Less Live More campaign is under way soon. Great events like the Bike To Work Day Pancake Breakfast, the River Ride, and the Dump the Pump Challenge, are all back for another year. And so is the One Less Trip contest. Beginning May 1, you can start to log your trips online and set yourself up to win prizes including a $1,000 Visa gift card.
What is Drive Less, Live More?
Drive Less Live More is your connection to healthier, cleaner, more affordable transportation choices within the greater Dayton region.
As Americans we love our cars. We think nothing of driving less than a mile to the bank, the store or even from one parking lot to another at a shopping center.
As our waistlines and our dependence on foreign oil increase, the quality of our life and air decrease. But it’s not as if we are trying to pollute our environment or be less active, it’s just become second nature to grab the keys and go.
But there’s a better way. Residents of the Greater Dayton Region have a variety of alternative travel options walking, biking on paved recreation trails, riding regional transit, or carpooling.
The Miami Conservancy District, Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, Greater Dayton RTA and Five Rivers MetroParks have teamed up to bring you the Drive Less Live More campaign where you can save money (see how much money it really costs to drive your car with compute your commute), get fit, win prizes and improve the air you breathe.
2008 campaign saves more than 63,000 miles
Two seems to be a big number for the 2008 Drive Less, Live More campaign. In only its second year, the campain doubled in virtually every category from number of participants to average number of trips taken and average miles per trip. About 400 people participated in the campaign this year saving nearly 64,000 miles.!
They walked, biked, used the bus or carpooled with a friend. In the process, they've improved their health, our region's air quality and their budget's bottom line.
